Since February 1994, I have been a part of The Achievement Center team. Now as the leader of that team, I envision a promising future for The Achievement Center. While some things change, others stay the same. Our goal at The Achievement Center is still to remediate students with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders in a caring and nurturing environment. Dedicated staff still provides a 5:1 pupil/teacher ratio.
My history with The Achievement Center goes back to the early 1970's when the school was founded. At that time, my father was President of the Board of Directors of St. Vincent's Home for children in need in the Roanoke Valley. That Board voted in 1975 to open The Achievement Center, a school for children with learning disabilities.
The Achievement Center is not just a school or a work place. It is a family dedicated to serving a special population in our community.
The school changes the lives of children. Parents say:
"How do we thank you? You have changed our lives."
"You have put a smile back on my child's face."
"Never did I think my son would be able to sit at a desk looking up words in a dictionary! Thank you!"
"Quite frankly, I do not know how to say enough thank-you's for what you have done for our daughter."
"Our lives are forever changed because of your generosity. Thank you."
